Geneva and the Alps

I am traveling to Chamonix via GVA this Sunday. I arrive in Geneva early Sunday morning but check-in in France isn't until early evening. Can anyone recomend a pleasant way for a New Yorker to pass away the daytime hours? Do the lockers in the Geneva airport accomodate snowboards. Or, are there hotels in the area that offer half-day rates?

There is no lockers for the items of snowboard size. Go to the Airport railway station, 1 minute walk from the airport. There is an attended luggage facility on your left just after the ticket counters. Leave the luggage there, then take any train. They all stop at Geneva Cornavin (central)station. Get out of the station, walk on the Mont Blanc street to the Lake Léman (5 min). Stroll along the lake. I'm not sure what would be a pleasant way for a New Yorker to pass time though. If the weather is not nice for walk, museums are open. This will be the Easter weekend but if you need to buy groceries, Migros supermarket is open at the end of the long hall at the airport train station.

Correction. That's on your right. On your left, on the other hand, you will see coin operated lockers.
