I've very much like you in wanting to stay close to the airport when I have a very early flight. But Swiss cities are places where I make an exception (Zurich is good, too.) The trains really do run very frequently, on time, etc. Switzerland generally runs like a fine Swiss watch. This is an easy thing to do. I'd stay by the train station.

Similarly, I am returning from Zermatt and needing to fly out of Geneva early AM, so I had planned on spending the night near the airport. Staying in town and taking the train is intruiging, but my flight leaves at 6:50 AM and the earliest train gets me there at 5:47 AM. Seems like that is a little too close for comfort? Fodor's lists the cost of a taxi as 30 SF? Sounds like staying at the airport and taking the train into town and back the day/evening before might make more sense.

Hi auleen,
As you were considering a stay in Lausanne (so may consider staying a little away from the airport) and as you prefer small towns, let me suggest Morges for your last night.
Morges is an absolutely lovely little town between Lausanne & Geneva. It has a lovely lakeside park with stately trees and sweeping lawns; it also has a lakeside promenade, and a cobblestone center street lined with cafes and shops on both sides. If you're there in the springtime, there is a tulip festival in April-May. I love this little place!
Here's a link to my review of the town:
Morges

Trains run from Morges to the airport with 0 changes & take about 38 minutes. There's one that leaves at 05.50 and arrives at 06.28.
Have fun!
