Gatwick Lodging

My flight out of Gatwick is on a Thursday is 6:50 a.m. (headed to Marseilles). I land at Heathrow the night before so making a connection isn't a concern. However, lodging is. Previous posts have recommended staying in London near Victoria and take the train to Gatwick from there.

Since my flight is so early on Thursday, is it worth it to stay near Victoria or should I try to find a hotel near the airport? Along that line, does anyone have any recommendations for accommdations near the airport?

Thanks!

Hi SL,

We stayed at this guest house. They have 24 hr shuttle service to LGW.

For such an early flight I would stay near Gatwick. I recommend the Gable End Guest House. We stayed there a few years ago and it was very nice, and there's a pub down the street where we had a wonderful dinner. Sorry I don't recall the name, but I'm sure you'll find it.

Hey PM,

You stayed in Horley, too. Small world.

Are you thinking of the 6 Bells pub, located in a bldg tat dates from about 1300, next to the church that goes back to 1100?

Hi, Ira. That could be it, but I'm sorry to say I honestly don't recall. I do know it was a very short walk from the hotel, maybe a block or two. It was very busy, and I can certainly understand why, as the food was so good!!

Staying in London is a good idea - BUT NOT for a 6:50 a.m. flight. You'd have to be out of your hotel and at Victoria station before 5 a.m. I'd stay at one of the B&Bs already mentioned or in a hotel w/i a couple of miles of LGW.

I recently stayed at the Hotel Arora Gatwick--free airport shuttle, huge room. Delta employees stay here. It was only $78 plus tax at priceline.com. It is 4*

They have gorgeous leather chairs and sofas in the lobby. Popular with small conferences so good business center if you need it.

For a flight into Heathrow, followed by a trip out of Gatwick I took the SpeedLink from Heathrow to Gatwick (about 45 minutes) where I had a room at Le Meridien hotel. Le Meridien is attached to Gatwick airport by a tunnel making it really easy to get there. I had a day room, took a nap, and had dinner before a night flight. Check it out as it was very nice and didn't require additional transportation. [email protected]
P.S. It's way too far and time consuming to go into London.
