Hi dlongan,
I live in Garmsich, so I hope I can help.
That looks like a good guest house -- I'm not wild about their location though. If I were you, I would try to be closer to one of the pedestrian zones, either the one in Garmisch or the one in Partenkirchen. This guest house is between the two. It is close to the train station, so that's a plus.
Have you looked at
www.gapa.de ?
Have fun as you plan!

Hi swandav2000
How nice for you to live in such a beautiful place!
Closer as in how far of a walk? We certainly don't mind walking, but will be pulling luggage from the train station.
Yes, I have looked there, and it's all very confusing. There look to be many nice places with both wonderful reviews and terrible ones. Can't please everyone! They all seem to say they are close to the pedestrian zone and the train.

Hi again,
Yes, that's true; most of them do. That's why I advise everyone to look at the address and to map it themselves. I did it for the Alpenkranz, and it was 700m to the start of the pedestrian zone according to google maps -- not far off from the 500m the house claims.
This guest house has been used by Fodorites who have written good things about it:
http://www.haus-sissi.de/welcome.html?L=6
It would be maybe 300m to the pedestrian zone, going down Achenfeldstrasse.
There's this one
http://www.gaestehaus-angela.com/index.htm
The website is in German, but you can use google to translate it. It would also be about 350m to the pedestrian zone, walking through the absolutely delightful "old town" of Garmisch -- the few streets that date from 800 A.D.
Here's another one:
http://www.gaestehaus-pfeuffer.de/
Again the website is in German, but you can easily translate it. It sits in a quiet street off of the main street in town. It is about 250m from the start of the pedestrian zone.
For Sissi, it would be about a 5-minute walk to/from the train station; for the Angela, it would be about a 15 or 20 minute walk to/from the train station (or you can easily catch the town bus to a nearby bus stop); for the Pfeuffer, it would also be about 15 or 20 minute walk to/from the train station.
Anyway, that may help get you started --
Have fun!

Thank you!
I have looked at the maps but of course I don't know where the pedi zone is, so I kind of map according to the train station.
I did contact haus sissi. Waiting for a reply.

swandav 2000:
Another couple of questions please:
We are planning day trips to Mittenwald, Manau, and Neuschwanstein. Is it better to go by train or bus, that is if bus is an option.
I have another very long ongoing post about my travel plans, but I'm going to put it here as well and you can help me with train options. Should I go with place to place ticket or some kind of pass:
Mun to GP
GP to Mittenwald
GP to Manau
GP to Neuschwan
GP to Mun (stow bags, train to Dachau and back)
Mun to Nuremberg
Nuremburg to Bamberg
Nuremburt to Bad Windsheim
Nuremburg to Rothenburg
Nuremburt to Boppard
Boppard to Cochem
Cochem to Frankfurt airport
As you can see, a lot of train travel over an 18 day period.

Hi again,
The pedestrian zone in Garmisch runs from the Marienplatz to the Tourist Information office at Richard Strauss Platz -- the street name is "am Kurpark." So, you can look at where things are compared to that.
For "Manau," do you mean Murnau?
For travel to Mittenwald, Murnau, Neuschwanstein, Munich, Nürnberg, Bamberg, Bad Windsheim, & Rothnmburg, you should use the Bavaria Ticket. It's like a pass where you purchase by the number of people travelling, and you can travel all day long for any distance. So long as you travel within Bavaria and travel after 09.00 on weekdays, you're covered. Here's the information:
http://www.bahn.com/i/view/USA/en/pr...a-ticket.shtml
For the other travel, your best bet is to buy a ticket in advance -- the advanced-purchase tickets go on sale about 92 days in advance, but they sell out quickly. You can usually get a deal where the trip is about 29€ or 39€ per person.
Have fun!
