Woody: This is not a farm, but it is a nice place to stay in Garmisch. Hotel Hilleprandt, located near the Ice Stadium in a nice neighborhood. We have stayed there 3 or 4 times. Rooms 1 and 2 are great as they are downstairs and have doors that lead to outdoor patios, if you have good weather. Phone: 011 49 8821 2861 Fax: 011 49 8821 74548.

No help on Munich. We usually stay in the suburbs and use the subway to come into town. It is great.

A good hotel in the center of Munich is the Platzl. It has a perfect location -smack in the middle of the Altstadt. Walking distance to the Residenz, Alois Dalmyer, Marienplatz, Maximillianstrasse for shopping, etc. Rooms are very nice with an excellent buffet breakfast. The restaurant Pfistermühle is very good. Rates were fairly high - I believe we paid about $200 a night two years ago for an upgraded (larger) room facing the inner courtyard. With the decline of the Euro it may cost less today (assuming you are using US dollars).

For a central location in Munich, try the Europaischer Hof. It is just across the street from the Hauptbahnhof.
It is reasonably priced with a good breakfast buffet.

For schedules, try www.bahn.de.

Hello! Here's the website for train schedules: http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/db.w97/query.exe/en
Trains go hourly and it takes about 1 1/2 hours.
Be sure and go to Partnachklamm, a really cool gorge by the Olympic Ski Stadium.

There is a hotel right at the Hauptbahnhoff in Munich. We stayed there during our trip. The neighborhood is not much on atmosphere but is not unsafe. Room was $150 per night and cheaper on the weekends. While it was not a "charming" part of of Munich, it was EXTREMEMLY convienient. We were right at the station to catch trains for day trips. Most organized tours will pick up from the Hauptbahnhoff. When it was time to leave the city, it was only a few blocks to pick up our rental car and it was relatively easy to drive out of the city.
