Hi all,

I am looking for recommendations on your favorite lodging in Galway City. My husband and I will be visiting for one to two nights in late June before heading to the Aran Islands.
We won't have our rental car at that point so I would like to stay someplace within a fun neighborhood we can explore on foot, close to dining and pubs.

We are open to hotels or b&b's.

Jury's Inn, beside the Wolfe Tone Bridge is an otherwise unremarkable, US style hotel/ motel, but it is quite affordable, has excellent views of River Corrib and Galway Bay and sits right at the end of Quay Street. Hard to beat. I've stayed there twice.

The Park House Hotel is very nice, clean, centrally located and you can walk to everything. This is really a nice "Irish" hotel. So many of Ireland's hotels have lost that charming Irishness and are blended with Europe and international chains into a homogenized blandness. www.parkhousehotel.ie

The Great Southern Hotel is grand but pricey.

The Galway Bay hotel is really nice, we have stayed there a few times and always enjoyed our stay, its right on the sea front, and the restaurant is very nice too, I dont usually like hotel restaurant food, but would recommend the food at the Galway Bay Hotel

I am very glad to hear that as my parents are going there this weekend! They are eating in the hotel one night, is there a nice restaurant nearby that you would recommend for thier second night? They probably would be happy with any kind of food except Italian.

(Sorry Montebello for jumping on your thread, but the reply might help you too!)

I'm surprised that nobody as mentioned Garvey's. It's on Eyre Square (aka JFK Square) and across from Galway Bus & Train Station. The Tourist Office is up the street (where the CityLink Bus from Dublin comes in).

The only time I tried to get a room there they were fully booked, so I can't give you any specifics; but it is very convenient to just about everything.

The Salthill area is very nice & there is local bus service to/from Eyre Sq. But it's also a nice walk (past the Claddagh Port and along the beach). You'll find several very nice B&B's in the Salthill area.

just a little warning...

we stayed at Jury's in Galway one night in June a couple of years ago and our pretty river view came with a very noisy late ...well almost all night party crowd.
we were there on a weekend and any pub with music was so crowded you needed a shoehorn to get in...but the street entertainment was fun.
It was very convenient to night life! It might be different during the week, but the crowd was young, college, "pick up bar" scene...not our thing, but you might enjoy, but one night was more than enough for us (can you tell that Galway was not our favorite?).

I'm a devotee of Four Seasons B&B on College Road. It's about a 5-minute walk from Eyre Square, so within easy walking distance of pubs and restaurants.
