I stayed at Knockrea Guest House B&B and really enjoyed it. SOmeone had recommended it to me and I was very happy there.
It is within walking distance to the centre of town...about a 20 minute walk and is also within walking distance to restaraunts and to the walkway along Galway Bay.
The web site is
www.galway.net/pages/knockrea
Eileen is very , very nice.
Good luck
Well, we stayed in Salthill (just outside Galway, and we walked into Galway one day and took a bus in on the other, no problem). The B&B was called Marless House - we stayed in 7 B&B's on our last trip, and Marless house was the best!! Clean, pretty, comfy, cheery, the best hostess, Mary (when I told her how much I liked her tea set, she insisted on sending it home with me!!!). Think it was more like 22 or 23 punts per person, though.

Bake,
Be careful with margo's recommendation as it cut and pasted from her book with no personal experience. Remember that the first weekend in June (4th-6th) in Ireland is a holiday weekend so pre-book. Any Irish Tourist Board approved B&B (with the green shamrock sign) should be suitable. The standard of B&Bs in Ireland has improved over the past few years,

Joyce

Perhaps Margo DOES have personal experience and just wants to be very thorough with the information.
I can tell you from personal experience, I have stayed at Knockrea and loved it.
Also, I tried to make a reservation at Marless House months in advance for a SINGLE room, only to be told they were fully booked. When I was in Salthill, I went for a walk and passed Marless House. There was a vacancy sign our front. Perhaps they had a cancellation, but it did make me wonder if they just didn't want single occupancies.

To Me
I have been to Ireland several times and have always paid a single supplement and have always stayed in a room with a double bed. Never have I asked for a single room and got a single bed. Most B&B's just don't have single rooms. So, I'm well aware what single means...I'm not a novice ..
Most B&B's will take a single person.
In fact in Killeybegs I had a room with 3 beds. Paying the single supplement is not a problem for me.
Oh and I am fully aware of how to read the B&B listings. And Marless House most definately lists the single rate...which is why I contacted them in the first place.
