fussen to oberammergau by public transport

We need to get from Fuessen to Oberammergau by public transport. According to the www.bahn.de website, we must make a four hour journey going back through Munich. Is there a bus that goes more directly? If so, where on the internet can I find the bus timetable. Thanks!

You do not need to take the train which will be, as you have figured out, like going around your elbow to get to your foot...yes, there is bus service between the two; busses arrive at the RR station in Oberammergau; not sure where they leave from in Fuessen but they won't be hard to find.

You can check schedules on the bahn site

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

Look down to the space that is labeled "Means of Transport" and change that to "local transport only" in the drop down

you'll get the bus schedules between Fuessen and Oberammergau.

Thanks, Dukey

I tried your suggestion, but for the date I want to travel (21 December) it only gives me the four hour train option. Are the busses on strike on that day??

I took a bus once from Fussen to Linderhof, via Oberammergau. Buses leave from the Fussen train station but halt at several stops in the Fussen area, such as a Schwangau. Fairly regular service and a nice scenic journey. I transferred at Oberammergau's train station to a bus to Mad Ludwig's Linderhof castle about six miles out of Oberammergau. Buses are inexpensive.

Very strange (I just tried it and I got the same results you did).

For what it is worth I also tried inputting the 5th of December and changed the time to 06:00 and then selected local transport and un-selected "fast connections" and I got the bus schedules.

Do not have any idea why the 21st doesn't work so cannot offer any other suggestions.

We've taken this trip in the past by bus so there is no doubt about the service.
