fussen day tour
Hi Fodorites and thanks in advance. Me, DW, and DS(18y.o.) will have 2 full days and 2 half days in Fussen on 24May. Im asking for a day tour recommendation. Im looking towards Garmisch. Checking on DB Bahn there's a bus connection from Fussen to Weiskirche to Garmisch. Our common interests are culture, history, local markets, local foods, and churches.

Hi chrisjeru,
Yes, it's very easy to get between Füssen and Garmisch using the RVO busses. I'm more familiar with them going TO Füssen, however. I know there is a direct bus TO Füssen in the mornings and one FROM Füssen in the afternoon, but otherwise, you'll have to change. That's not a big deal -- the bus driver can help, and you won't be the only passengers doing this.
You may want to change routes -- travel to Garmisch via Reutte and then return to Füssen via Oberammergau. I prefer the route via O'gau.
There is a market in Partenkirchen on Thursdays and one in Garmisch on Fridays, so try to plan your trip to coincide with one of those.
Many people like to ascend the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain...are you interested in doing that?
Have fun as you plan!

Thanks swandav, too bad our sched wont coincide with any of the 2 markets. The detour to weiskirche was intentional to see the pilgrimage church first. However Db bahn shows the bus leaves fussen 11:30, too late to start our day. So will have to rethink about that. Or am I missing an early connection? No plans to visit zugpitze as we will have our taste of mountains in switzerland on june 05-11.

Hi again,
There are connections leaving Füssen at 08.03, 09.15, 09.35, 09.45, 11.15, etc.
When you use the DB site or app, make sure you look at the day & time. If you don't change it, it will use current time, which is different where you are and where the DB is. So change the day to a day in the future, and set the time to 08.00 or whenever.
Yes, I can see that you wanted to see the church...but you can still return using the other route.
Have fun!

As swandav wrote, several connections between Füssen and Garmisch do not go by bus via Wieskirche but by bus and train via Reutte.
If you use the latter connection you gain some time to spend in Garmisch, but you won't see Wieskirche.
By the way.. I just checked the Wieskirche's website and it says that the church will be completely closed for the public from May 20 until May 25! Which, I think, means including May 25. But if that's the only day you can go, you may want to ask there in advance by mail.
Visit times - Wallfahrtskirche zum gegeisselten Heiland
I think it may also be important to know what you plan to see on that day. And how much time you will actually need in Garmisch, since you don't plan to go up Zugspitze. Aside from exploring the town center, the only other major attraction in Garmisch proper I can think of would be the Partnachklamm (gorge).
Other attractions are further away, like Linderhof palace, Ettal monestary, Oberammergau village.
