Anyone know what the average fuel prices are in Germany and France? I would be using high octain in a V8 BMW.

Thanks,

This past summer, gasoline with an octane rating of 98 cost in the neighbourhood of 1.25 euro / litre in Germany. I think it's a couple of cents / litre lower in France.

France also has some toll roads, but I don't know if your route would take you on any of them.

Dear spart,

If you will be driving a BMW V8, why are you worried about the cost of fuel?

At Euro 1.25 /L, that would be roughly $6.15 US per US Gal with the USD @ 1.3.
Also, be aware the FR tollroads have times of entry and exit, so take a break to avoid an on-the-spot speeding fine.

Good question Ira.

Mikemo, at today's rate of 1.35 $/€ it comes out to $6.39 per gallon. At 20 miles per gallon that figures to be about three miles per dollar.

Make sure they give you green stamps when you fuel up.

That's actually $0.32 per mile at 20 mpg, but still rather on the high side for most non-SUV drivers.

And ira, if he can afford the BMW V8, then a 500 euro ticket shouldn't dampen his spirits, at least not the first time.

Too bad they don't make a diesel for export to the U.S. I rented a 3 series diesel wagon -- it was a great little car with a lot of pep.

I feel your pain. Get used to the $70.00 fill-ups.

I ran my gas tank down to a little less than a 1/4 of a tank when I turned it in for shipping. When I picked it up from the dealership 6 weeks later, the tank was full on delivery.

... because we care about ecology.

The prices came down a little lately. It was 1.08 per litre yesterday.

And importing BMWs weakens the dollar. Much easier to blame govt than look in the mirror.

I have not been paying much attention as the USD's decline reached just under 1.35 @ yesterday's close. That means about the best retail exchange might be about 1.38+.
Reg unleaded fuel was about Euro 1.05 -1.07/L in Spain and PT in July.
The highest premium grade fuel in Germany and France must surely be close to Judy's E1.25/L price (or $6.53/USGal). That's about what we paid in the UK in July for regular unleaded IMP/Gal, and over $100. per tankful in a five series Bimmer.
The 4K rpm limit for the break-in will help especially with a 5 or 6 speed man trans.
93 OCT fuel was about $1.87/gal in Dallas this last week. All the "tree huggers" here drive huge SUV's.
Have a great trip: cost be d.......

The lowest prices in France are available at supermarkets which have self-serve stations attached to them. But the differential between their prices and the price at standard gas stations has been shrinking.

Many thanks to all of you who have actually answered my question about what price could I expect. Thanks.

For those of you who seem to have an attitute... just because I drive a V8 BMW, doesn't mean that I shouldn't have a care about estimating my expenses while in Europe. In the future, please stick to choosing to respond to my original questions (or not) but please save your negative comments for someone else.

Thanks and Happy Holidays,
Spartacus

Don't get upset Spartacus. On Fodor's you have to learn to take a good spirited poke now and then. We've all been there. Your question was valid and received valid answers. If you hadn't mentioned the V8 BMW (irrelevant) the wise cracks wouldn't have had an opening.

hopscotch,

Thanks for "calming me down". ;-)
The only reason I mentioned the V8 was because I wanted to communicate that it would need a higher octane, thus a higher priced fuel. Guess I didn't need to mention the BMW...... oh well, I got my answer, once again, thanks to those who responded to my original question.
