From Fodors.com: Dr. Seuss and server trouble

Hello All --

Just a quick note to apologize for our server troubles this week. Some posters feared we’d become the victim of hackers and others thought we were sadists out to torture our Travel Talk addicts. Wrong on both counts. The grinch who stole the forums, albeit unintentionally, was actually the late Dr. Seuss.

Each year around the time of the good doctor’s birthday, March 1, kids from schools across the nation access the Web site of our parent company, Random House, as part of the celebration. Each year, we and the Random House techies put in place measures to keep the rest of our Web activity proceeding apace, but this year the onslaught was greater than expected, which led to interruptions in service.

We’re terribly sorry for any inconvenience our server problems may have caused. The flurry of traffic should have abated by Monday (March 4). In the meantime, we’re all eating green eggs and ham as penance.

Thanks to everyone - regulars and newbies - for making the forums as robust as ever.

Yours truly,

Danny Mangin
Editorial Director
Even the most creative paranoid conspirator theorist wouldn't have dreamed up that situation!

Thanks, Danny, I love this site and was at a loss when I couldn't access it. I didn't realize how often I check in for information and smiles.

Danny, I had to forward your post to my brother, who constantly sends me posts from his favorite blind message board. This beats them all!
