From Florence, Venice vs. Rome?

We will be in Florence in November for 12 days. We'll spend the bulk of the time exploring Tuscany, but wanted to take our 7 and 8 year olds on a 2 or 3 day sidetrip. We're thinking Venice or Rome, any advise or other recommendations?
Thanks!

Hi Ic,

I'd go to Venice. Completely unique, truley enjoyable.

But I'm not a big fan of Rome.

I'm a HUGE fan of Rome and like Venice.
Either would be fine. Get a DVD or back that has a little of both and ask which one they would prefer.

For such a short time, I would do Venice. Plus, I think with your kids ages, they will enjoy the uniqueness of Venice, all the water, the boats, etc.

The kids would enjoy Venice now and Rome when they are older. I love BOTH in very different ways.
