Friuli wine region from Venice-- train available?
Leaving tonight for Venice, staying in Padua (business meeting) will revisit Venice, Vincenza and Verona for first time-- is the Friuli area doable or even possible from station in Venice? Rather quick trip, dont wish to rent car this time. Thanks--

Yes, for the most part. Easy train ride from Padua or Venice to Vicenza (love that little city, and they have a very good bus system within the city and outskirts) and on to Verona (also a good bus system). There are also nice areas north of Venice that are easy to reach by train. You may need a taxi from some of the stations to get to a hotel if it is not in town, but many towns are walkable. I like the little town of Pordenone - had one of the most memorable meals ever there, and they have great chocolates.

I think your best bet is to go to Cormons, which from Mestre is roughly 2 hours by train. In Cormons, The Enoteca in Cormons is highly well regarded. From there, you could get a taxi to a winery, but you would probably need the Enoteca to make the appointment for you.
