darlene, i'll certainly be in touch if we do end up going to Florence next year - and of course I'll have your trip report for reference - you ARE going to do one, aren't you?
my recollection from my trip 3 or so years ago is that shops in Oltrarno stay open til 7ish, those on the ponte vecchio til a bit later as they are mainly for tourists [a good place to hang onto your handbags and purses!]
if you are in Oltrarno, you won't forget about the rose garden, will you - definitely a must see. here's a link to my trip report about it [and other things horticultural in Florence}

it opens from 8-8 every day [or did in 2011].

Thank you for the "last piece" of info!
I will not forget about the rose garden, and yes, I will do a trip report!
I've never done one before. I guess it's probably easiest to do it at the end of each day while things are fresh.
Thank you so very much for all of your help. I'm really excited about the trip. Off to read your trip report for more ideas!
I'm just so glad this itinerary ordeal is over. I tweaked Day 1 a bit more, and now I'm very happy with it and ready to go.
Paris is done and have some fine tuning left for Rome, but it will be much easier. With Rome, we actually have quite a bit of free time to just explore. I'll bump that thread or create a new one soon. Did you do a trip report for your recent trip to Rome? Didn't you just return?
Please link if you did!

hi Darlene,
i'll look out for your TR at the end of May with great interest!
yes, i am doing a TR of our trip to Rome - just click on my screen name and you'll find it. I always have great intentions of doing it as i go along, but certainly this time i was much too busy - i hope that you have more success.
buon viaggio!
