Looking at all these replies makes me feel like a travel novice (well, I really am, I guess). I've only been to 6 countries- Italy, Spain, France, England, Ireland, and Mexico. I'll be adding Hungary this summer, but wow, I've got a long way to go!

51, but I'm 55 years old. My ambition is to get more countries than years behind me.

64 countries- and adding 3 (possibly 5!!) more by the end of 2012, which would be 69! Maybe I'll stay in Korea with a friend who lives there a few nights on my connection and make it an even 70....

When I first answered this thread 8 years ago, I was at 13 countries. I'm now at 27, and will soon be adding 2 more. Woo-hoo! (Expect a trip report and lots of pix, as usual.)

US(42 states)-Canada-Mexico

Bahamas-Jamaica (they were still colonies - does that count?)

England-Wales-France-Belgium-Netherlands-Norway-Germany Switzerland-Austria-Italy-Greece-Spain-USSR/Russia-Iceland

Liechtenstein-Luxembourg-Monaco-Vatican City

Denmark-Finland (changing planes only-not counting them)

New Zealand - Japan

So, 25. I've never actually counted before and it was fun to do this. I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to live in four countries and visit so many more.

Bahamas and Jamaica are still colonies??? Don't be rediculous. Go read a book. Obviously travelling is not as educational as it's cracked up to be.

Where did I say they are still colonies?
When I visited them in the late 1950s they were British colonies. The Bahamas became fully independent in 1973, and Jamaica in 1962.

I have not read through this whole thread to see what the criteria for "visit" is, but assuming it means one spent at least one night, and ate at least three meals there, my total is 33.

belted - Where did you see that The Bahamas and Jamaica are colonies?

What I said was that when I visited them in the 1950s they were still British colonies.

They have now been independent for many years.
