French Riviera and French Alps
I am seeking suggestions on someplace to relax for a couple of days along the French Riviera and in the French alps. Nice seems to be centrally located with good acces by train but would anyone recommend other towns or cities? We will also be spending 2-3 days in the French alps and are looking for suggestions on where to make a home base. We are also interested in riding a cable tramway to the top of a mountain? Any and all suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Nice is very central and we stayed there for three nights, but found we liked Antibes very much -- due to sandy beaches and beautiful scenery. Would stay there next time. In the Alps we stayed at Chamonix and went up the cable car there to view Mont Blanc. Excellent! Like being on top of the world. Recommend it!
Hi Larry
We stayed in Ville Franche Sur Mer overlooking the harbor and loved it. It was a 5 minute or so bus ride into Nice ($1) round trip. Monte carlo was about a 20 minute car ride and they do have train service. We too followed up with Chamonix as our next stop and went to the top of the Aiguille du Midi, which was spectacular. Be sure to leave yourself with extra time if you go to Chamonix in case the weather is bad. We next went to Annecy and stayed in the old town which was only about an hour and a half from Chamonix in case we needed an extra day, which we did!!

Larry, we just came back from a wonderful tour of France & Italy.
Stayed at Chamonix-Mt Blanc and took the train to see the Mer de Glace.
We wanted to go up the Aigulle du Midi that afternoon,
but it was closed due to strong winds so make sure you save schedule some time
to visit it the next day (as we did) if need be.
Their website is http://www.aiguilledumidi.com/
Also stayed at Hotel Clarine de Lausanne in Nice.
