French anti-Semitism

Considering the rash of synagogue firebombings and anti-Semitic crimes in France, and the inaction of the French authorities, I would like to urge Americans to boycott travel to France until the French government begins to truly crack down on these hate crimes.

Please pass this message on! Thank you.

Get ready to say goodbye to this thread. Discussions on European anti-semitism are apparently not welcome topics here.

And what are you expecting the french government to do that you would find satisfying, exactly?

What about the Jewish family in Brooklyn who has gone into hiding because of death threats from their fellow American Jews, all because their son met with Yassar Arafat?

Why should I have to give up my trip to France to show support for your people when you are exhibiting the same intense and irrational hatred?

To show support for "your people"?? I would think that regardless of religion, we should all be horrified by the anti-Semitic attacks in France. They're not death threats made by a few idiots (as in Brooklyn)--they're actual firebombings of synagogues and attacks on Jews all over the country. There's no comparison. You don't have to give up your trip to France, "sickof," but if you have a conscience, you might want to think about it a little.

To consider boycotting France for these acts is ludicrous. Although there have been two atrocious acts (links below) perpetrated in recent days in my immediate area, I have neither plans to move away or discourage people from visiting the area.

http://www.almanacnews.com/morgue/2002/2002_02_20.temple.html

http://www.bayinsider.com/news/2002/...urch_fire.html

Please bear in mind that the vast majority of French people are not anti-semetic... and remember that these attacks are largely carried out by hotheaded young French Muslims. Those are the facts as far as I can see them.

With such idiotic logic, I suppose the entire world should have boycotted the US for any travel when the Oklahoma bombing took place. Actually there were many more killed there in a hate crime than have been in France -- and the US government did nothing to stop it!!

Or are you suggesting that the French government actually plotted and carried out those attacks recently?

I too am still waiting for the answer of what these idiots expect the French government to do exactly that will satisfy them.

I bet these jerks asking for boycott are the same jerks who always post about how smelly the French are, how rude they are, and how much they hate them. Can we say, "preconceived notion"?

Does anyone remember just a week or so ago, one of the French ambassadors was overheard saying "That sh*tty little country is not worth going to war over",
???
With thinking like that in their government, there are plenty of other places for us to visit.
We will not be going to France for a while, and we are not Jewish. They do not seem to have changed since the second World War.
And dopey-the Oklahoma bombing was done by an American against his own government..What does that have to do with this topic? French anti-semites beating up Jewish couples and burning synagogues is not quite the same thing.
People that wonder what the French govt should do-wht do ohter govts do when their citizens commit hate crimes?
If the laws were enforced, people would be arrested and discouraged from doing these things in the first place.Maybe a little education would help.Ignorance is the basis of all Anti-Semetic behavior.
I agree,

Just trying to understand. Is it Anti-Semitic to disagree and even question Israel’s current policies?

I have so much sorrow for what's going in the world, and travel is what helps get many of us through. Do I have to witness this dialogue over and over on this travel bulletin board?

Yes, it is legitimate to ask if fellow jews have felt threatened when traveling in Europe, but that is about all that I can think of as appropriate.

Of course it is NOT Anti-Semitic to question a governments policies, Isrealis question their governments policies every day!
Anti Semitic behavior is----
hostility towards or discrimination against Jews--like burning their places or worship, homes, beating them up,calling names.
There was a time when the Church of England treated the Irish Catholics in a pretty bad way because of their religion. You would think that more people would be offended by this sort of thing.
