Freighters to Europe

Does anyone know anything about traveling from the USA to Europe by freighter in December 1999? Looking for a cheap way to get to France by boat from NYC. Fear of flying!!!

Hi Joan!
I am in the shipping biz, (ie cargo), and i do not know of any of my competitors that still do this on the trans atlantic trade. I would suggest calling the New York Steamship Assoc., they MAY be able to stear you in the right direction. Good Luck.

Hi, Joan,
The biggest US-based freighter cruise agency is in LA; their web address is: http://www.freighterworld.com/index.html

We did a transpacific freighter cruise in December (better weather than the Atlantic, I imagine), and loved it. Good luck!
