Castle Hornberg. Great old castle hotel & wonderful food. the town looks like a postcard. We were ther last sept and I think we were the only tourist.

If you mean Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany I stayed at the Hotel Novotel in December and liked it very much. I would recommend a room on the top floor (6) facing the forest for a nice view of the forest and old town section of the city.

We were comfortable at the Alleehaus (allee means tree-lined street) in Freiburg. It's in a quiet residential area, but close enough to easily walk to the cathedral. Breakfast was abundant and good. We'd definitely stay there again. Enjoy Freiburg--we've been there several times and love it.

galvin,
Do consider the Hotel Alleehaus. It offers a tough-to-beat combination of great location (a peaceful, residential setting that's a mere five-minute walk from downtown Freiburg), moderate rates, and comfy, attractive lodging. Travel writer Rick Steves is spot-on when he describes the Alleehaus as "tops."
