Frankfurt is not considered a prime tourist destination when compared to other destinations in Germany. However, for a short stay, it does have some nice museums, and it is pretty close to the most scenic sections of the Rhein (there is a train station in the airport). Not all that far from places like Heidelberg, Rothenburg, Wurzburg as well. I'd say it's worth a go.<BR><BR>Some notable spots for culture and art:<BR><BR>Goethe House and Museum<BR><BR>St&auml;del Art Institute &amp; Municipal Gallery<BR><BR>Liebieg Municipal Museum of Sculpture<BR><BR>Museum of Modern Art<BR><BR>7 museums clustered on the &quot;Museum Riverbank&quot; in Sachsenhausen, the old quarter which is interesting in itself.

Last summer I had two days in Frankfurt before flying home and almost nixed those after reading about Frankfurt on this board. It doesn't compare to somewhere like London or Paris or Barcelona, but I enjoyed myself there nonetheless. I spend most of my time outside (the old town is easy to walk) and I found the contrast between the modern skyscrapers and the centuries old buildings both beautiful and sad.<BR>I stayed at Hotel Kaiserhof near the main train station. People on this board also said that this wasn't a great area to stay in but I found it perfectly safe and within good walking distance of most things. P.s.<BR><BR>I paid about 70 Canadian dollars a night for a double with full bath in July.<BR>The room was very nice, and I would stay there again. Clean, internet access in the hotel, and lots of tourist info at the front desk.

I have been to Frankfurt twice--once for a half day, once for a full day. Everyone always gives Frankfurt such a bad rap, but I found it to be a nice place to go. As posted previously, it is not touted as a prime tourist destination. But the spots that Rufus pointed out are very interesting. <BR><BR>I also shopped in the main area and found the prices slightly cheaper than in Munich. Oddly enough, I found the people there much more laid back than the stressed-out tourist centers like Munich.

It';s been a few years, but I skipped Frankfurt and went an hour away to Fulda - interesting Cold War history. Had an American military base at the time, so it was the only place in Europe I was automatically served ice water!
