Do they exist? I have breakables and want to store them in the airport. I have a five hour layover and want to take a short trip to Mainz. Any help is appreciated.

Look for the "Gepaeckaufbewarung" counter (yes, it's all one word!) in the terminals.

Add one letter, then it will be correct:

Gepaeckaufbewahrung, and the service window of such a service is the Gepaeckaufbewahrungsschalter and the agent manning that service window is the Gepaeckaufbewahrungsschalterbeamter - I kid you not (or not much).

Thanks treplow and WallyKringen. With the world cup in frankfurt i was wondering if it might be more interesting to go in to frankfurt. i will post another question to see if anything is going on. i will only be there 5 hours on Tuesday morning.

I used Google{R} to find the official site for Frankfurt Airport, and from there did a search for "luggage". This led to this URL,

which specifically states where you can find lockers.

Depends on the exact nature of those five hours. Touchdown to scheduled take-off? Then forget it.

But if it's measured between getting out of the airport (a half-hour to 45 minutes after coming off a plane if you have checked luggage), and the generously calculated check-in time for your next flight, then by all means.

Take the S-Bahn into the central main station of Frankfurt called Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, it's a ten-minute ride or so.

Follow the signs "Trains" and pick the "Regio" as opposed to "Fern (long distance)" Bahnhof. Vending machines for tickets are everywhere, and the schedules are posted, but you almost don't need those, trains run all the time.

Go walking - leave the station's main exit behind you and head East - print a little map from the Internet before leaving home.

Where are you heading after your 5hr layover? If you are heading to the US, you must realize that you need to go thru two security checks at FRA. The second one requires extensive individual check with a manual metal detector. Took about 30min to go thru. After that I went thru never ending winding thru the building before allowed to be on the plane. For this reason, I was told that the boarding time was almost an hour before the scheduled departure.

There is a luggage counter "Gepaeck..." at FRA.

Also realize that FRA is an enormous airport. While S-bahn and DB stations are "at" the airport, count on taking at least 15 min to get there if your plane gets a gate. If your previous plane does NOT get a gate, you need to add another ~15min to get bussed to the terminal.

While flights in and out of FRA seem to be often late, the DB trains do run on time.

We are arriving in Frankfurt at 5:30 AM and changing planes. We leave at 7:25 AM. We will be back in Frankfurt, to visit, 1 week later.

We would like to leave luggage at the Frankfurt airport but are concerned we may not have enough time to pick it up, store it and go back through security and return to the gate for our next flight. What would happen if the luggage is delayed? Would they keep it for us?

Seems to me that you have to bring the hammer down before you leave from your home airport. Either your luggage gets checked through to your final destination, or not.

If it gets checked through to your final destination then you probably won't see it in FRA (and don't think that the check-in agent in the US will know the answer...), you will either walk to the connecting gate without having to leave the secured area ("in transit&quot or - more likely, you'll pass border police (Bundespolizei) for passport check and you'll then find your gate.

If you want to make sure you have access to your bags in FRA, you have to tell the agent when you check in to only mark it for FRA - then you have to go to the carousels in FRA, go through customs (not a big deal) and find storage lockers etc., re-enter the secured areas via numerous passport and boarding-pass checks and the main security check (they wand everybody down and grope for hard items on your person - no subtleties involved, either, and it doesn't matter if you set off the beeper or not...) and then hope to make your next flight.

We will be coming from Johannesburg, after finishing a safari. We are changing planes and would love to leave 1 heavy, stuffed suitcase, with dirty, safari stuff, in a locker in FRA. We would specifically request that the one piece of luggage go to FRA, as we have 2 Lufthansa separate tickets.

If only one of us, presumably my husband, picks up the luggage, puts it in a locker, and tries to go through security and check points, without any other luggage, is there any chance he would be able to do this in two hours? My guess is no, as it sounds like security is pretty tough. However, it would be very early, so I doubt there would be much traffic at the airport and it may be possible.
