Given your preferences, I'd opt for either for the Piazza Navona/Pantheon district or for the main (western/northern) part of Trastevere.

Sorry, but I don't think you will get answers on this thread. This one is not on single apartments, but only on Roman neighbourhoods - people who might know one of these apartments will most probably not weigh in here. You may want to repost opening your own thread.

jen1219, There are reviews for some of those apartments at http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/vr/list.asp?r=Rome

The easiest way to find them is to click on Agency; the agencies will come up in alphabetical order.

Regularly over the last weeks, people who wanted to contact me opened new threads and addressed me in the title, like "Franco (and others), ... question, please". I hope I've noticed all of them, but nevertheless, this is a little hazardous since I'm not such a diligent forum reader - rather the lazy type. Very often, I'm just checking the threads on which I've already posted before...
So if you want my opinion, please post your question on "my" appropriate thread (all the links are above, near the top); or, if you open a new thread for your question hoping that this way, more others might weigh in, then please post a short notice or a link to your question on "my" thread as well to prevent me from overlooking it. Thanks!

Franco, thank you for your help. I am arranging a deposit on an apt that looks over piazza Campo de' Fiori.

Just wanted to let people know that we had a wonderful apartment in Trastevere through www.romanreference.com. It is #279 on the web site. On a beautiful quiet street in Trastevere, Filippo Casini, just up the street are buses 44 and 75 and very close by is the tram 8. Very easy to get to anywhere in Rome. It was clean, comfortable, pretty, with Ethernet cable for your laptop, 2 separate bedrooms, comfortable beds, views of gardens. Owners live next door, speak good English, and are very helpful. All This for 700 euros for 6 nights in January. Couldn't have been better!

hi franco!
i have one final request for your opinion on apartment location. thanks for weighing in, we're at a bit of loss deciding which location is best.

we've narrowed it down between these choices:

domus priora http://www.rentalinrome.com/domuspri...omuspriora.htm
loft santa margherita http://www.rentalinrome.com/santamar...heritaloft.htm
prisco http://www.rentalinrome.com/prisco/prisco.htm

we had been leaning toward this one:

Eliza, as far as the VRBO apartment, I'd first ask for a precise address. It's not easy to imagine where it may be - if on the Gianicolo slope (i.e. behind/above the Botanical Garden), this would be quite inconvenient. If downhill, i.e. near Palazzo Corsini, that's nice, quiet and convenient. Of the three others, the best location is certainly that of the Domus Priora - a residential area distant enough from the touristy part of Trastevere, and close enough to the (very convenient) tram that links Trastevere to Largo Argentina (the bus hub of the centro storico).

This is a busy shopping district, with more than just a few tourists, too (the Spanish steps are nearby) - not among my favourites, but certainly not bad.

Thanks for looking--and now one more question re location--comparing an apt on Via del Pelliccia in Trastevere with a hotel near Piazza Navone--via dei tre archi. I know there are other factors/ space vs. cost but your thoughts regarding location and feel of those areas will be appreciated....

treble, the answer to your question is already on this thread - please scroll up to what we discussed with butnotrmpt the last two days before Christmas 2007! Hotel S. Maria on Vicolo del Piede is in the same neighbourhood as Via della Pelliccia, and butnot's Piazza Navona choice was exactly the same as yours, on Via dei Tre Archi.

Hello Franco and all fans of Rome:
We are planning a three week trip to Italy. We start in the Piedmonte district, visiting distant relatives, then a week in the Lucca area, onto Venice for 3 days then finishing with 4 nights in Rome in mid-June. I am interested in your opinion of an apartment I found in Rome which is in the area of the Borghese gardens
http://www.rome-accom.com/accommodat...elle-arte.aspx

We are looking forward to visiting Rome, but not too fond of crowds!! Please let me know if this apartment is too far from attractions to be feasible. Thank you!

Well... first of all, the apartment is certainly not where the provided map says - it's giving the location of Villa Giulia, LOL! It would seem the apartment is on Viale delle Belle Arti (btw, it's more than strange to see an Italian apartment's name involve a grave mistake in Italian grammar - they call it "Belle Arte", while it must of course read "Belle Arti&quot. Anyway, this is FAAAAAR to distant from everything (with the notable exception of Villa Giulia, of course). With that location, you could as well skip Rome - you wouldn't see much else of it than trams and buses. And it's really cheeky that they claim it's ten minutes walking from Piazza del Popolo. Ten minutes, HA!

Hello Franco - Thank you for the speedy reply! I'm really having a hard time finding a nice apartment in Rome in mid-June that has 1 double bedroom and 2 twin beds for our teenagers (one boy 18 one girl 15). Many of the apartments say they sleep 4, but it's a double bed and a sofa sleeper in the living room. If you have any recent hot tips for apartments or hotels, please share your knowledge. Thanks again - Corinne
