The more we ponder and hash this out - now we are leaning toward staying in Bamberg or Wurzberg, since both of those towns were on our "to see" list.

I just booked the BW Bamberg for 3 nights - since it falls over a weekend I thought I should grab something. Then we would try to do Wurzburg one day and Regensburg one day. Just a thought!

Check the train times - it's going to be about 1.5 - 2 hours each way to Regensburg.

You can get to Wurzburg in 1 hour from Bamberg - no changes.

I lived in Nürnberg for 18 months and loved it as a place to live. It is a very nice town but for a tourist destination I liked Würzburg, Regensburg and Bamberg better. I know that other folks can feel differently. I think that you will enjoy your stop in Bamberg.

Regards, Gary

We arrived in Bamberg from Salzburg yesterday by train and it is everything we had hoped for and more!!!! We will be here 3 nights, staying at the very comfortable and convenient Best Western Bamberg. Today we will take the train to Wurzburg. Tomorrow, not sure what to do. Am going to post a new thread for that. Thanks so much for the wonderful help!!!

We had a great day in Wurzburg. Easy train ride from Bamberg and it reconfirmed that we definitely made the right decision in staying in Bamberg for the 3 nights. Still so much to see and enjoy here.
