Francesco's Italy Top to Bottom

TV Alert--Travel Channel, right now. The 3-4 hour series is presently running on the Travel Channel (channel 64) here in Chicago. Try to catch at least some of it. A beautiful series. No hotels or restaurants, just amazing sights as he begins in Venice and moves down to Sicily. A wonderful tour of the highlights of Italy from top to bottom.

Watching it now! It's great, lots of interesting towns and sights. Too bad we're not going until fall...

Yes, it's been on all evening in Houston and looks like it'll be on all night too. Really good, brought back all kinds of memories. Beautiful photography.

Saw the Bourdain show as well. One of his better ones. Aagh--I want to go back to Italy, NOW!! I want it so badly it almost hurts!! Maybe I shouldn't OD on all of these shows in one night.

If you like his series, try and get the companion books for this series (and the Venice series)--we bought both when the Italy series first aired on BBC.

I was fairly disappointed in the Top to Toe series - I thought it was hugely inferior to his first set of programs on Venice (certainly available on Amazon UK and well worth it).

He is an expert on his home city, and is passionate about its history and architecture. Venice proved to be a bit of a surprise success in the UK, and I got the impression that the Top to Toe series was an attempt to cash in.

I felt the second series was a little hurried - snippets of interest but nothing in depth and then padded out with long shots of Francesco in his car etc.
