France or Italy?

Hi, Im a newbie here, I was wondering which country would be cheaper to visit for two weeks. France or Italy? Im 23 and I will be traveling solo and I would like to go in late Spring or Fall. I want to enjoy amazing sites, lots of culture, and of course great food and wine.

Hi FCG - You can visit either country on a budget with a bit of planning - staying in hostels (- or budget accm.), travelling and eating on the cheap, etc.

The choice is yours - choose which country you prefer, then we can help ...

My daughter (22) just spent 10 days in Paris for a total cost of about $900, excluding airfare. That included museum and metro passes, all food, staying in hostel.

It's not formulaic. You can visit either country for pretty much whatever reasonable budget you set for yourself. It depends in large part where you travel to. For example, a week in Rome will cost a lot more than a week in the Corrèze. A week in Paris will cost a lot more than a week in Le Marche. Determine where you want to go and set a budget and then find ways to do what you want within it. I think you're approaching your trip planning from the wrong perspective.

If you are 23 and on a budget, check with your local community college. The language depts often have incredible packages for students and 'friends' for mid spring and mid fall.' For a fraction of what it would cost, we got :air, eurail passes, vouchers for hotel rooms(2 and 3 star hotels all over Europe) and Museum passes.

You can control your budget in either country. but if your focus is great food and wine, dining won;t be cheap anywhere. Unless you don;t really mean "great" but just local.
