France Itinerary Help

My wife and I are planning a trip to France for late October. We basically have 10 nights.

My current plan is:

- Arrive CDG and drive south. I'm looking for someplace about 1/2 way between Paris and Marseille for 2 or 3 nights. Any suggestions?

- Stay 3 nights near Marseille (we already have this booked... going to just see the sites, do some hiking, etc.).

- Drive 1/2 way back towards Paris and stay for 1 or 2 nights (Suggestions?)

- Drop the car at the airport.

- Spend 3 nights in Paris.

Sound reasonable? Any thoughts, concerns, suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Hi A,

Dijon/Beaune ar about half way.

If yuo decide to stay in Dijon, you might want to consider http://www.myhomeindijon.com/

Certainly Burgundy, as Ira suggests. It's beautiful country, and there is much to see...and drink...and eat. Either Dijon or Beaune would be good locations on the way down; on the way back you might consider a night or two in Lyon.

Don't know if you've already made your flight arrangements, but have you thought about flying into Marseille and then out of CDG? Even with an overnight stop, it's still a very long drive on the front end of your trip and will take up one of your precious days. Another alternative is to take the TGV train from CDG to Avignon, Aix or Marseille (about three hours) and then get your car there. You can still see much of France when you drive north.

Thanks for the responses... I'll look into the Burgundy area.

I did look into flying into Marseille, but things ended up going thru Milan and taking a lot of time.

We enjoy driving as a way of seeing the countryside and use it as a way to stop in small towns, so doing 300 miles in a day doesn't bother me.

Thanks again!
