France in April

I'm traveling to France in April to visit my daughter while she is studying in Dijon. We are planning to spend a week in Paris, and will celebrate both our birthdays then...she will be 21, and I will be a lot older. We are trying to decide what to do to celebrate. Do people recommend lunch or dinner at one of the Eiffel tower restaurants, or is that just too "touristy", what about the Seine dinner cruises? Any suggestions, comments, advice for fun memorable activities will be greatly appreciated, as I am a first time traveller to France. Thanks

The Eiffel Tower restaurants are nice, book early, and, if need be, consider lunch versus dinner. Window seats...ask about. As a back-up, there are also restaurants nearby that have views of the tower. The Montparnasse tower also gets mentioned as the 'forgotten one', also with restaurant and great views over city.

The Seine river cruises are very nice, I'd recommend only doing it at night, in order to get the views of the bridges and buildings lit up, and of course the Eiffel tower too. Can't say I've read about anyone saying the food on these cruises is any good, so I might consider dinner beforehand.

Don't do a dinner cruise on the Seine; rather, do the cruise, then go have a lovely dinner somewhere nearby.

The Tour Eiffel restaurants are great. Make reservations well in advance. Paris is also full of other wonderful restaurants in all price ranges. My daughter (22) and I happen to have a particular fondness for La Guirlande de Julie on the Place des Vosges, but that has more to do with our personal history than anything else.

Thanks, I was actually considering lunch vs dinner due the prohibitive cost of dinner. I like the idea of lunch, followed by a river cruise to top off the evening...

hi Amy

If you want to try somewhere special, but don't want to spend as much as dinner costs, very often lunch wil be cheaper. a chance to try one of the top restaurants without all the cost!

OTOH, in April it'll be dark by the time you finish dinner so you'd get a chance to see the view frst, followed by all the lights. Personally, I'd rather be looking at the eiffel tower than in it in those circumstances.

have a great dinner whatever you choose,

regards, ann

Any preference for the Jules Verne vs the 58 Tour Eiffel? Do you know whether we can skip the lines to enter the Tower if we have reservations in one of the restaurants?
