What happened to all those hot pink fuscia winter coats I saw in the windowns in St Germain last September?

And there were also lots of fairly light grey, and heavy light beige sweater coats?

and by the way, does anyone in France wear FUR in winter or is it as verboten as it is here ?

and whateer happened to winter white cashmere?

The French didnt seem depressed to me, but maybe they are because they wear so much black !

This is the coat that I saw many men in Paris wearing in November, 2008.

The photo is from The Sartorialist.

Thinny, did you notice Alt was wearing those fringed high heel boots? I didn't like them but loved her Rick Owend jacket.
I noticed alot of women wearing those shiny leggings in black or grey. They look like a wet suit,

Tres chic! I would wear that coat and look DIVINE! (Please forgive my lack of humility but I am tall and I do have great legs.)

"Or maybe I was only noticing the more colorful ones?"

Makes perfect sense, given how colorful you are, sweet dear. At first, I thought you were one of Thin's Sybil clan, with the fab username and all, until I discovered you were another cute girl with style who loves to travel but this time a real GIRL. You go girl.

I love the photos, dear, but do us a favor and figure out how to post a slide-show presentation (try flickr). Your individual jpeg url's are driving me crazy. (Written with much love and fondness and welcoming you to Fodor's.)

ps Oh, how I missed these fashion threads. Everyone at TTG seemed so overweight and overwrought. Well, almost everyone.

Living in Paris, I can confirm that black is by far the predominant color at this time of year. Often, waiting for the metro, I find myself looking for a spot of color on the opposite platform -- in a group of 20 or 30 people, only one will be wearing any major visible item lighter than charcoal grey or dark brown.

When people take their coats off, it is sometimes a different story.

It's very easy to go overboard on black. It's slimming, youthful and sophisticated. Doesn't sound depressing to me.

Bright colours in winter? Only to make a statement, my dear.

Thin, that looks very chic indeed. Love the splash of colour. If all men could look that smart. I wear bright colours in winter, but for men a black or charcoal winter coat looks best I think.

Madamoiselle, gorgeous pics! Makes me want to go BACK to Paris! I am REALLY looking at shoe styles right now. PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO TIE A SCARF BEAUTIFULLY! I usually look so silly.

Well I have just returned from the Loire valley where my parents live & can tell you - the French were wearing all sorts of colours - from red to black to purple - all ages>

ah the eye of the beholder - my son whose observation of 'everyone in black' started this thread spent several weeks at his mama's house in Orleans - in the Loire!

I LOVE all the photos everyone!!!
Love the dark basics with hits of colour in scarves, bags, etc.

MademoiselleFifi - girls are still wearing the jeans tucked into boots? - that's the third season in a row! Glad to see we're not that out of things over here and I can continue to wear this look for at least the rest of the winter.

It's funny. In 2007, we were in Paris in the winter, and took the metro a lot. I swear I was the only person I ever saw in a red coat...everyone else was in all black. So in 2008, I wore all black during our 5 weeks in Paris and, one day, coming up the escalator in the metro, two young guys pushed in front of me and one began to pick my partner's pocket (he was dressed all in beige). So I let out a yell, everyone jumped, and the guys ran off. Obviously, they didn't think I could be with him!

Tomorrow, due to the temperature (-8°C) in Paris, I will be switching from my brown Rainforest parka bought at Century 21 in New York, to my navy blue London Fog winter coat bought at Simpson's in Montréal.

I asked my son (25 ans) today whether he meant more people than before were wearing black and he emphatically said yes - more than ever before that he had seen. So i do not know if it's a trend or the same as always but that's what struck him.

As far as I'm concerned, black is a perfect color to complement a beautiful city. Imagine taking a photo of Notre Dame with a hideous pink or lime green tourist standing directly in front of it.

Well, I guess that depends if Naomi Campbell is the tourist and the hideous pink or lime green is Vivienne Westwood.
