France - biking
Has anyone heard anything, good or bad, about E.E.I. Travel (Express Europe)?
My sister (27) and I (40) would like to bike in France and are considering one of their guided tours. I have used Backroads in the past, but they have become extremely expensive.
We are considering either the Bordeaux, Loire Valley or Provence. Any suggestions.
Thanks, Maureen

You only need to post your question once.
I recommend the Loire Valley. Haven't been on a bike in Bordeaux or Provence.
Why don't you get a couple of guidebooks, rent some bikes, and go do your own tour? You don't need a jungle guide in France.

We are in the process of arranging something in between these options. The Anjou Bike Center (near Angers)is arranging a self-guided trip for us in the Loire Valley. We'll see how it goes. The guy rents the bikes to you and arranges a customized itinerary including making reservations at chambres d'nhotes. You spend the first night at his b & b to get outfittted and be given a briefing and a detailed itinerary. You then set off on your own.

Actually - it is a big deal when you are giving a tour company a scathing review. With regard to Le Vieux Moulin Cycling Tours - Please note, the ownership changed in October 2005. Frank Pettee is no longer associated w/ the hotel or tour company. I have not been, but have booked a 5 day trip in June w/ my husband. I have already spoken w/ the new owners several times & they were hugely disappointed to learn about the review posted on Trip Advisor & Fodors.
They are a young couple in their 30's who are very excited about France, cycling & their hotel/restaurant business.
I hope travelers keep an open mind & contact Michelle @ Vieux Moulin directly as I did, rather than taking the review as reason enough to disregard Le Vieux Moulin & look elsewhere.
