Forums Update: Your Local Time, # of Posts Appearing

I just wanted to let you know about two new updates to the forums this week. One is here already, the other hopefully will debut later today.

1) For those of you who would prefer to view more topics in the left-hand column and on the subsequent browsing pages, there is now a way to elect to view 50 or 100 topics at a time. To change this setting, click "account settings" at the top of the page; you'll need to already be signed in. After re-entering your password, there will be a page of options---on the bottom right hand side there is a box for Forum Preferences for you to choose to view 25, 50, or 100 topics.

You may find that the page loads slower for you if you opt to view more topics though it should speed up over the course of your visit as the page caches.

2) We will shortly be introducing time stamps that display your local time (instead of ET across the board); that means that the time displayed next to each post will be in your time zone. This feature is based on your browser/computer's time settings. This is a feature that is basically "turned on"---so it may seem like a slight time warp if you're on when we flip the switch.

Thank you for your patience and feedback over these last several months; should you experience any trouble with these changes or have suggestions please write to us at [email protected].

Best,
Katie

I just selected 100 topics as a preference- lol, it makes for a very long page, but it's a very nice option to have.

Thank you, Katie et al.

Thanks for that Katie. Please also consider, as has been mentioned many times on here, the separation of Africa and the Middle East on that forum.

Katie - this is great - thanks so much. I see very little difference between loading 25 threads and 100.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm going with 100 topics for a while to see how it works. Looking forward to seeing topics stay on the board for more than an hour or two at a time.

And oh yeah, in case I forgot to mention it, thank you.

Thank you, Katie! We appreciate your response to our feedback.

One hundred threads load almost as quickly as twenty-five and I'm so happy to have ready access to more threads on the same page.

This site has always worked for me. One change that has been suggested before, is a 'spell check'. I know it would help me tremendously. Thanks Richard

Richard, does your browser toolbar have a spellcheck feature? I installed a Google toorbar and it has that - works for any website I'm on.

I believe the spell check is difficult to add due to browser compatibility issues. I can check on that again though.

I use Firefox which has a built in spell check.
