Thank you so much Janis! I just got a ticket, front row.. the price shockingly inexpensive.

I will be in London from December 4 or 5 on, if you have a GTG would love to attend.

Congrats on the ticket! 👍

Unfortunately - we're almost passing over the Atlantic -- I fly home the afternoon of the 3rd

We saw a very entertaining Pygmalion last night at the Old Vic. Eliza was a hoot. They added a little tableau at the end to let you know that her marrying Freddy was not such a terrible thing. Bonus easy bus ride from Russell Square.

On the minus side, everything slows down toward the end, where Shaw gets preachy. He couldn't seem to help himself.

Sorry to gush, but I just saw Dr. Semmelweis at the Harold Pinter Theatre, and it was the best, all-around play I've seen in years. The entire ensemble of actors (and ballet dancers and musicians) were wonderful, and the set design, costumes, staging, lighting was so smart. You sense the whole thing was put together by theater artists at the top of their game, and the confidence and surety of their choices makes every moment a work of art. Mark Rylance is such a pleasure to watch, and his portrayal of this doctor's struggles, and eventual breakdown, is heart wrenching. Fascinating story. Makes for an interesting complement to the book I'm reading: Confinement by Jessica Cox. I hope some Fodorites have a chance to catch this one, though I know it's ending soon. But I know I'll make a special effort to see anything Mark Rylance is in from now on.

(Oh, and I also saw Ricky Gervais at the Palladium on a spur of the moment ticket buy. He was as you'd expect, and the show will eventually be recorded for Netflix in October, but a real thrill to be in the same theater where Judy Garland performed.)

A 'Must See' IMO is Sondheim's Old Friends at the Gielgud Theatre limited run til January 6. With Bernadette Peters and Lea Salonga. Unfortunately I won't be able to see it since my few nights in London are already fully booked up.
