For Mainhatten Girl re: Idstein
Hi there my friend !
I noticed a post of yours the other day about a small town, Idstein, north of Frankfurt. I checked it out on the internet and really love the look of it. Could you please tell me the best way to get there by train, leaving from the Frankfurt main station. I've had a look ont he rmv site but am a little confused. Just need to know I think what name of train to get. Many thanks. Leave now in a week. !

If you switch the RMV website to English, and then type in your starting point - Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof and your destination - Idstein, then this will give you the time of your train and the track that it leaves from.
Looks like it is the RE 20, leaving from track 2. It is easier to take the train that doesn't have any changes. Do the same thing to get info on the return trip. When you get to Idstein, the Alt Stadt is about a 10 min. walk from the train station. Just head straight down the Bahnhof strasse. Make sure you visit the Union church near the market square, it is amazing. The Hexen Turm should be re-opened soon to climb to the top.

Hi Mainhattangirl,
You've also inspired me to visit Idstein! I'll be spending an afternoon there in October, taking the train from Frankfurt.
Do you know if the castle & Witches' Tower will be open in October 2015? You indicated in Dec they were closed but maybe reopening soon?
Thanks! Can't wait to see this charming town.

To go up in the Witches Tower all you need to do is go to the Tourist Info in the Killingern Haus and they will give you the key. Just remember to lock the door behind you when you enter and again when you leave. The top part is tough to climb unless you enjoy ladders.
