For Ireland lovers...a movie mini-review
If you love to watch Brendan Gleeson on the screen, run, do not walk, to the nearest theater showing "The Guard" (Garda). It is certainly the affable Gleeson's tour de force, as Gerry Boyle, Irish cop extraordinaire, If you liked him "In Bruges" you'll clamor for more with "The Guard"...Gleeson, if never before, shows he's not only Ireland's great character actor, but he's world class. Don Cheadle, as a straight-laced FBI agent in Ireland on a joint mission with The Garda, plays off Gleeson as the true professional actor he has also proven to be. The two of them on the screen together are magical.
The introductory scene of Cheadle being introduced by the Garda commisioner will have you in happy tears. The scene of Gerry Boyle and two hookers partially dressed as "cops" is hilarious. It all takes place in County Galway and its Connemara Peninsula. There are a few serious moments also. No kidding.
Like the old Hollywood and Broadway saying goes, "I could watch Gleeson reading the phone book for hours."
