Hello! I'm leaving soon for a trip that includes some time in Paris. I've been searching for good food recommendations in the 14th arr. since my hotel is there (within a short walk of the Montparnasse metro) as an option for meals that may be close to 'home'.

Does anyone have any personal experience with various eating establishments (under 50 euro, any style) near there?

There are many wonderful crêperies down rue Odessa and rue du Montparnasse (NOT blvd Montparnasse). Perhaps the best known among these is Crêperie Josselin.

One place that should be high on your list is la Cerisaie:

Be sure to reserve several days in advance as this restaurant is very small yet quite popular.

You might like Montparnasse 1900 which offers complete meals for under 35€ including champagne and wine. The decor is interesting and the food is well worth the price.

Second the recommendation for La Cerisae. VERY small storefront restaurant with the chef in a tiny kitchen in the back, excellent food.

sure, there are tons in that area. I especially like Chez Fernand just a bit east of bd Raspail on bd Montparnasse, and the Relais d'Entrecote near the Vavin metro stop.

Cafe Odessa isn't bad (at the intersection with bd Edgar Quinet), and of course the Dome is good but pricier (they do have a bit cheaper branch just down a side street next to them). and then the Coupole is a famous old brasserie, although to be honest, I often don't find things on their menu that I'm quite in the mood for one way or another, and I'm not crazy about the new design (new for some years, I know, but I've been staying in that neighborhood for decades). The food isn't bad, though, and it is historic.

We like the Crêperie Plougastel on the rue de Montparnasse.
Also, there is a Relais de l'Entrecôte on the Boulevard de Montparnasse. Around €25 for salad, steak and frites.

If you have a smartphone, you can download "The Food Lover's Guide to Paris" by Patricia Wells. She recommends Le Dome, 108 boulevard du Montparnasse, Le Duc at 243 boulevard Raspail, Jeu de Quilles at 45 rue Boulard, Le Severo at 8 rue des Plantes and Spice and Wine at 142 ave de Maine.

I recommend La Regalade at 45 avenue Jean Moulin. The place is small so make reservations. The food was very good and that was my first experience with mashed potatoes that tasted like butter. Ummmmm.

We spent a month in Paris this past September and found ourselves on the #68 bus to the 14th so often for dinner that we named it the bistro bus. Here are a few favorites:

le Cornichon - 33 rue Gassendi - possibly our new favorite in the 14th, casual bistro

Kigawa - 186 rue du Chateau - small, elegant, superb

Simply spectacular! I just now was able to check my phone and found this unimaginably rich list. I had heard of just 2 of the entire batch you all suggested and my first thought was, why bother with museums, I'll just eat my days away with all of these. Mind you, I really love museums so this is saying a lot.

Truly, what a phenomenal list and so helpful in narrowing down the many restaurants I could see just by a simple google search but having the suggestions of Fodorites, whose taste and recommendations I value greatly, is priceless! Thank you to each and every one of you.

I have the entire list written down and saved for reference. I will be sure to report back!

I have been in the restaurant but have never had a meal there so can't comment on the food. The views toward the Eiffel Tower are splendid and it seems you can reserve a specific table when you make a reservation online. For dinner, the three course menu is €68. There is a lunch menu for €39. It seems to me that one or two people have posted here about their experiences there, but I'm not finding them with a search. I've never been tempted by the Eiffel Tower restaurants, but I'd love to do this someday.

Having just made The Paris 50, picked by experts Greenspan, Lebovitz, Lobrano, Mah, Thorisson, Waters, Wells, the 14th arr. offers 2 contenders:

Le Dome - $$$ (definitely not 50 E)
Creperie Josselin - $ (under 50E)(David Lebovitz pick)


In the 6th, just in front of you so to speak, they pick: Pizza Chic - $ on Rue de Mezieres
Cuisine de Bar - $ on Rue du Cherche Midi so charming
Les Papilles - $ (another David Lebovitz fave) near Lux Gardens. It was darling & delicious.

We were not impressed with (winner) L'Ami Jean in the 7th, rude, crowded & hurried bistro.

Another winner and 'city standard' in the 1st is Willi's
Wine Bar - $

We will be back in the 6th in September and want to try some of the 14th's offerings.

Alice, I just read part 2 of a hilarious Paris TR and he mentioned Les Papilles too. I had been so into the 14th that I hadn't yet even looked at the 6th so thank you for including some of those close by - so many options, so few days. But as a previous poster mentioned, just another of many reasons to want to go back.

YOu certainly can eat at the Dome for 50 euro if you want. I go by there all the time, their menu has several main courses for less than that. Not a whole lot less, but there are some. Cote de veau is only 40 euro, for example. Several of the coquilles St Jacques dishes are about 45 euro, and the filet de dorade is only 42. You'll get up near there with a glass of wine, of course, but some don't drink. Their cheapest glasses are around 9-10 euro.
