Fontainebleau & Chartres in same day

Friends will be in Paris in April. They want to do a day trip to Fontainebleau AND Chartres in the same day by train/bus. Is this possible?
How would they travel between Fontainebleau & Chartres?
Thanks for any help.
Susan

I can't answer your question specifically, but this website should help. Info is available in English

http://voyages.sncf.fr/
they would be so rushed that they would not enjoy it. Both merit an entire day. Chartres is such a beautiful town--why just rush in, see the cathedral and leave? spend some time exploring.

Your friends may be great at getting up really early and it may be possible. I know the breakneck pace many travelers try to keep. I would not do both in one day. The SCNF train web site will be the definitive answer, I think. I love both the Chateau and the Cathedral, so I'd hate for them to miss either one. I assume they will see Sainte Chapelle on the Isle de la Cite and the Musee National du Moyen Age, Musee du Cluny in the Latin Quarter during their in-city days.

Susan,

This is a(n) (indirect) follow-up to ur correspondence on this same question on www.allexperts.com - - As others have said here, it's not that it can't be done; just not recommended, at least not by public transportation.

What is/are the date or possible dates? I might have an idea about a private driver for a day at a reasonable price.

Rex
