Speaking in generalities, it does not work at all for WORD searching from the past "x" days - - "x" being determined by when they last updated the indexing. It hapens to be not updated since December 4 (i.e., 8 days ago, as of this morning).

Conversely, searching for COUNTRY seems to work pretty much all the time, instantly.

Best wishes,

Rex
Today I tried searching for info on the Lucas-Carton in Paris, but the search kept pulling up threads with just "Lucas", so any person who posted under the name of Lucas was there. Even tried putting Lucas-Carton in quotes but to no avail.

Of course, there's the possibility that it's not mentioned in any of the threads, but I find that hard to believe considering we have several years worth of posting.

It's not that difficult to do a search on Fodors if you use simple words (one unique word would be best) and avoid special characters and don't expect to search within a few days of the post (except to simply list all posts for a country, which you can do).

Lucas Carton is mentioned in about 20 posts which immediately come up if you put "lucas carton" in the search box and hit France -- with or without the quotes around the name. You should not use special characters ever in your search terms.

Even if Lucas itself brought up everyone by that name, it is not a common name -- only 30 posts show up when you do that and it would be easy to open the ones you want by the subject title having to do with restaurants or dining. Even if you opened up all 30, it would not really take that long to immediately close the ones unrelated to dining, if you didn't trust the subject title.

It would be nice if they would fix the indexing, or at least update it before they start the registration.
Why is it such an ordeal for fodors to do the indexing? Does Danny go through each post manually keeping track of every word written or something???? Surely in this day & age they could have systems capable of doing it automatically in a way that isn't so hit & miss?

Registration seems to have launched without any glitch that I can tell. Even searching for those no-longer-visible e-mail addresses still works.

Now maybe they can turn their attention to updating the indexing? I wonder if the search will STILL find posts based on e-mail addresses (which are still "implicit&quot on thread begun AFTER January 27?
If I am not mistaken, the indexing has been updated(two or) three times this week alone. Thank you, Fodors.
