Fodors - fix the site before you lose everyone!
I love this forum - but it is getting impossible to use. Every day some new glitch pops up. It is intolerable that it can take 7 or 8 minutes to post a two line response. And now it keeps throwing me back to the log-on screen - even tho' I am clearly logged on. Heck, My name displays on every page.

More and more of the "regulars" will give up if they need to set aside an entire afternoon to just post one helpful answer.

I am glad to know that I'm not the only one who gets thrown back to "log on" all the time. AND, the system keeps losing my password so it has to be reset often. I love this forum but it's getting rather difficult to use.

What I find amazing is that we don't seem to all be experiencing the same problems. For several days I had absolutely no log on problems and was able to keep posting -- although the big problem was that it simply wouldn't take the posts. Today my problem however, was back to getting caught in the loop of filling in my password over and over.
I emailed the editor's listing my problems and got a reply within an hours apologizing and saying they are aware and frantically working to correct the problems.

I have just completed five posts in a row with no problems at all, should I hold my breath??

This site has been horrible since registration took over. I've attempted to post several times only to never have my responses never appear. I do not have time to re-type over and over.

I am pretty positive all the regulars, myself included, will simply find this too much bother to contend with and this wonderful forum will die by the wayside. One has only to look at Frommer's ... it's a vast wasteland (that requires registering so that may be the problem).

Personally, I did not find the nasty people who posted on this forum a bother, you either don't have to read their stuff or you can skip it -- with registration there is nothing to read or to skip.

I hope Danny, etc. are reading these posts. They seem to always be frantically working to solve the problem but it really has been getting worse.

It is odd isn't it, the permutation of problems here since registration?
One day my postings are vaporized as soon as I hit the send button, another day the Fodor's site won't load at all, and today I have the log -in- a -bizillion -times thing going on.
I can't call myself a regular, as I have only been around here since last summer, but I think I'm going to grin and bear it until Fodor's get the bugs worked out. I do enjoy reading other peoples messages and I like being able to occasionally add my two cents worth of knowledge.
Now, I am sitting here preparing to send this message ( and wondering if it will "take"
and I'm trying to decide if this site has become comparable to a crap shoot... or is it more like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates? "You just never know what you're gonna get!"
I'm just having trouble getting my posts to post. Some do, most don't, but there's no consistency.

Also, downloading this site is taking forever now. At first I thought it must be on my end, but every other page I go to on the web downloads as normal.

Wonder if this will post.

BTW, since registration, I probably get on the site about 25% as often as I used to.

There are frustrations on every section of the site, USA, Asia etc. Unless something gets sorted quick the site will die. This WAS a great forum but so many messages are now unanswered, and the technical problems must be fixed and fixed fast. I have a 28k connection here in Asia and it is worse for us, but because we are local we have all that local knowledge that people need.

I hope someone at Fodors is listening...hello???..anyone out there bothered

I was never for registration, either, although I was rather neutral on it. I didn't care much about nasty posts and didn't think there were that many, but just ignored them, so what. I knew it would cause problems, however, not only technically (it always does when Fodors changes something) but I suspected it would affect traffic on a site that by nature is more "drop-in" than some other sites which I don't think people who are registration proponents assessed correctly. I've seen too many sites ruined that have registration because they are boring and have little traffic

however, Lori, Frommers actually does not have registration. First they didn't, then they used to require it, now they don't, it is optional (you can post as a "guest" but you may need to put in an email. That is a better system. They also have good features on editing, and some other things. They revamped the format in last 6 mo or so to put on more ads and made it less attractive on front with smaller font.

It's never had a lot of traffic even pre-registration, I don't know why... I think the division into countries does tend to discourage generation of posts and traffic and reading and threads on general topics, of course. It's more factual, Q&A, but I think it's a decent forum, I just don't like their new font. I'll admit I don't view it or post on it that often and then only 1-2 countries, so I don't browse as much over there.

Hi All!
I think these "glitches" are Fodor's way of weeding out the "undesirables" such as myself and making this a "members only" (clique) group forum. Isn't it funny how even though we are all registered, there are some who profess that they NEVER have trouble posting or replying, whereas I have to copy and paste each of my replies 5 times before it takes?
Happy Copying/Pasting/Clicking/Pasting/Clicking/Cursing/Pasting/Clicking/Oh screw this
Rick

Lots of people have gone to thorn tree on TravelPlanet.com. Lots more subjects and posting options. If you're like me you may be sick of "Can anyone recommend a restaurant..." There's more to travel than the limited subjects on this board.

The problems are very real, but there just one (more) bump in the road. Big deal. Have you forgotten how many 24-72 hr outages there have been in the past 3-4 years?

Every day, all kinds of newcomers discover this site, because it really is the best, and the repository of info here is incredible, with continuing fresh turnover all the time. And every regular was once a newcomer, so some newcomer today, tomorrow or yesterday will become a regular.

I don't want to see anyone leave. but this will remain the hands down best, no matter what. And will return, better than ever, any day now.

Best wishes,

Rex
[email protected]
Because I have enjoyed this site since 1999, you think I can't still enjoy it?

I'm on my seventh trip since I came here (which will make 24 total), and I was fresh off two in the fall of 1999 when I first showed up here.

Why would you say such a rude thing?
Ignore him, Rex. Jor has been doing nothing but complaining about this site. We can only wonder why if he hates it so much he still continues to come here so much, just to complain about it. You'd think since he has found Lonely Planet that he raves about here and on the US board he'd be there, but obviously it isn't enough to occupy his time. His theory seems to be that people who have been here a while and offer good travel advice should leave, so that he and his friends can take over and write insulting and complaining posts. Why? I have no idea.
