Flying to Rome staying for 2 days and then Cruise.
Hello all. Good morning.
I am flying to Rome November 20th. Will spend a couple of days and then will take a cruise.
I will like to stay in a hotel or AirB&B near the Port.
Where have you stayed? Can you share your personal experience?
Any recommendations?
Yes, in an April post someone shared a list of links for hotels. I prefer someone who has done it and can make a recommendation.
Also, then to get to the cruise - taxi? Uber?
Thank you for your advise.

The port? Civitavecchia? You won't be visiting Rome if you stay there. It's a long train ride into the centre.
How to get to the port depends on where you are but there are trains from Rome to Civitavecchia and I think a bus to the actual port. Or you could take a taxi the last leg.
But to repeat if you want to visit Rome stay in Rome. Not a distant isolate hotel near the port.

Thank you Nick. My mistake. I should have said, that I DO WANT to stay near the port. I mentioned Rome, because that is where the plane will land coming from the US. Sorry about that. the rest is the same. thanks all.

I'm pretty sure Nick did realize that you said you wanted to stay near the port and was advising that it's not a good idea. I agree, you can't see anything in Rome if you stay there. Since you only have a couple of days in Rome, it makes much more to stay near the center of Rome.

Best/Easiest:
Book a car service to pick you up at FCO & deliver you to the door of your rental (I'd choose Trastevere or near Piazza Novona to be in the middle of the sites)
Book the same car service to deliver you to the port.
Cheaper:
Take the Leonardo Express train from FCO to Rome Termini Station.
Find lodging near Termini (will have to walk/commute to tourist sites and not as nice of neighborhood)
Take train to Civitavecchia for your cruise.

If you do not want to do a speed dating type trip to Rome, I cannot blame you. Cittavecchia is a nice port city with some historic sites and a promenade so can be a relaxing location to recover from your flight before starting your cruise. Should you not want to take the train journey to Rome, but still want to explore there are some day trips from Cittavecchia including one to Etruscan sites in the nearby area such as Tarquinia which might be of interest.

Hi castelfinder, sorry no suggestions for a hotel in Cittavecchia as have only visited there for the day. If you have decided to go for Rome and want an apartment, take a look at the Rome Sweet Home apartments https://romesweethome.com/
