Flying to Croatia in May

Hi all! I’m flying to Dubrovnik in May with my family, and we’re flying DC-Dublin-Dubrovnik, all on the same airline. My question is: when we land in Dublin, do we first pick up our checked luggage, go through customs (or that passport thing or whatever) and then re-check our luggage? Just want to know ahead of time. Thanks!

Yes to passport control. I never check a bag so not positive about that but I'm pretty sure you do. Are you flying Aer Lingus? If so, the transfers in Dublin early in the morning are very easy. I guess even if it's not Aer Lingus the same would hold for other airlines going through Dublin. I fly from the US to Europe transferring in Dublin a few times a year and it's very easy. If coming back home via Dublin you will clear passport control in Dublin so when you land in the US it's just like being on a domestic flight. Really nice.
