Great, Carol..please don't be the first person to complain when those "security goons" miss something important and an incident results.

CarolA, "Somehow FAs are deemed "safe" but those of us who PAY thier salaries are a danger....." Guess what--some of the paying customers are the bad guys, otherwise we would not need security.

Flew home on the 18th. We had 1 purse and 1 carry on bag. Some people had more, but it's just a matter of luck. No liquid was allowed through security and if you bought it at the gate, it could not be brought on board either. Several people were very upset, after they purchased it and then had to throw it away. We were served the usual meals and they were ok.

A. If you REALLY think that "security" is protecting you... well, I don't

B. The London "bomb" threat involved at least one of those "Safe" employees.

C. Orlando International recently had a security breach. A "Safe" airport employee took a BAG of guns and ammunition on a plane....

So... They area SAFE an we are DANGEROUS? Perhaps THEY should also be screened and subject to these measures if these measures REALLY do anything to proctect us? If not, allowing them to "avoid" these security measures invalidates the entire control and makes it nothing but "harrassment"

The fruit platter seems to be what caused the problem. Not a wise choice on my part. The roast beef sandwich may have had hard (perhaps somewhat stale) bread, but it didn't make my husband sick. The only thing I ate that he hadn't eaten during our final 36 hours in Paris was that fruit platter on the plane.

Other than occasional colds, sneezing, runny nose, I've never been sick, so this incident was definitely a wake-up call. The only time I've ever spent in a hospital was either visiting someone else or giving birth, so I went to the hospital reluctantly. However, they said it was very fortunate that I had gone because I was dehydrated and needed 2 bags of IV fluid. I've always assumed that a bad case of the "scoots" lasted no more than 48 hours. Never even guessed it could go on for nearly a week. I have been reminded just how long the intestinal tract is. Just when you think there's nothing left... and BAM. (Sorry for being so graphic.)

Like I said, there are worse things than getting sick AFTER a fabulous vacation, so I'm looking on the bright side. I'm also thankful that our children were not with us because they would have opted for the fruit, too.

Did those of you who had hot meals on recent flights to/from Paris fly United or a different airline? If it was another airline, which one? I have some other family members traveling to Paris in June, so I'm trying to learn whether this issue is limited to United, or whether all airlines are affected by this. Thanks.

fruit platter? that seems an interesting culprit.

seems would more likely be a meat item, dairy, etc. how does fruit get bad enough to give you food poisoning?

Suze: I have no idea. I've never experienced anything like this before. The health workers said it could have been cross-contamination or perhaps the fruit had spoiled. The fruit didn't look strange or have an odor, but the doctors said that spoiled food doesn't always have an odor initially. I'm just glad to be feeling better.

You always hear stories about people getting sick in Mexico. We've been to Mexico a few times and probably ate unwise things (seafood, fruit, salads)when we were in our 20s and early 30s. Never sick at all. I guess my luck had to run out some time.

As a nurse I can tell you almost any food can give you food poisoning. Another source is food handlers who work with food with unwashed hands. I'll bet the latter was the source for family4travels case. E-coli and salmonella are often transmitted in this way. So sorry you were ill,and glad you got well without complications....
