Flying from Heathrow 9/21/06

We flew out of Heathrow yesterday to Toronto and on to Chicago and then to Nashville, TN.
At Heathrow, we went through security with a clear plastic bag with our purses inside it along with prescribed medications and a change of clothes and necessary traveling documents. My sister was able to board with a bottle of eye drops even though she declared them (she was in a wheel chair, so that may be why they were more lenient.
On board BA, we were given a travel pack of lotions, toothbrush, toothpaste etc. but upon going through security at Toronto, they took the liquids and lotions out of the plastic bag...they took my face powder and a brush I had filled with powder blush and let me take that through. At both Heathrow, Toronto, and Chicago we had our shoes x-rayed.
On our trip over to UK we traveled via AA from NAshville to Chicago to Heathrow. They allowed a carry-on and a purse. They permitted lipstick, powder, but no lotion, etc. AA also gave us a travel pack when we boarded (business class).

I've been wondering if Business Class still had the amenity packs. Did they have the toothbrush/paste & the moisturizers in there along with the socks & eye masks?

Carrybean, AC are still providing their usual "goodie bag" in BC. A nice touch on the way back last Wednesday was a selection of sample size toothpastes, hand creams and deoderants in the BC washrooms.

I am so confused, I don't know what to think. I just called UAL, and they said that we can have one carry-on PLUS one purse/briefcase. EXCEPT out of Heathrow, where we can only have one carry-on, PERIOD. Gotta stash the purse & its contents in the carry-on. Or so they say. We refuse to check our baggage, for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that we're taking multiple flights to get from SF to Milan, & the last thing I want to worry about when we arrive at Malpensa is where our frigging bags are.
