Fly Rail Baggage, Switzerland
Hi,
I plan to visit Switzerland via Paris. I will be flying from New York on Saturday next month, reach Paris on Sunday and then will be flying to Switzerland on Friday evening. Do you think its possible to check-in the luggage (via Fly Rail Baggage) on Saturday and pick it up on Friday (that is after 6 days) in Switzerland. How safe is it?
Thanks

Hi moinjnu,
I would only do the Fly/Rail if I were flying directly into Switzerland.
BTW, did you know that it's probably just as fast, and certainly more fun, to take the train between Paris and Switzerland? If you buy your tickets in advance, you can get great deals, as low as 30-50 euro.
Have fun!

Hi Swandav
Thanks for the suggestion, I think train would be great. But where do you find 30-50 Euro tickets? I am looking for Nov tickets and its never less than around a 80 euros! Can you write me some options. Thanks buddy

Hi again,
There are two main sites (you don't say where you've been looking):
www.voyages-sncf.fr
www.tgv-europe.com
Do not select the US or Canada, though, or it will flip you to Raileurope, where fares are higher.
Best fares appear about 90 days early, so the very best ones may already be gone.

Ask your airline about that. But i doubt they would let you check the luggage that far before your flight.

Fri late afternoon could be tough, it's the huge commuter crush. Nothing under 80 Euros in the afternoon that I can see for randomly chosen Sept. 17 for example. But only 56 Euros at 11:10 in the morning, or 48 Euros at 13:10.
If you're prepared to go on Saturday instead I still see a 54 Euros fare for the 16:54 departure, or 48 Euros fares for trains leaving at 18:10 and 19:08.
And so it goes - avoid the crunch and pay less. Your bags are good with you on the trains, no excess cost, you bring on what you can carry.
