fly out of Geneva or Zurich ?
We are flying into Zurich on Delta. We plan to spend some time in first in northern Italy and then Wengen/Grindelwald Switzerland.
If we have a choice, would it be better to return to Zurich to fly home (Honolulu)or via Geneva ? Both cities seem to be about the same distance from Wengen.
Is one airport easier to access?
Thanks.

Direct trains from Interlaken to Zurich Flughafen - but probably not direct to Geneva airport - i'd say a bit quicker to Zurich but maybe you want to see a different town, then head to Geneva.
If you're doing this by train strongly consider the 3-day Swiss Flexipass - 3 100% covered travel days - one day to go thru Switzerland to Italy, one day Italian border to Wengen/Grindelwal and one day back to an airport - and for the whole month of the validity of this flexipass you get 50% off everything that moves in Switzerland (except cows, i didn't say moos) - will save you tons and pass is good all the way to Wengen or Grindelwald. If American passes are cheaper in US than in Switzerland last i looked - significantly for some reason. Compare prices with www.sbb.ch - Swiss rail site for point-point fares and then the pass (2006 US prices at www.budgeteuropetravel.com) - who i always recommend for questions on Swiss rail travel or www.raileurope.com or www.ricksteves.com - steves also has good info on Swiss rail travel. Passes are good for a whole calendar day - thus when you reach Interlaken you could do a boat trip on fabulous Lake Thun that afternoon, etc. and it'll be 100% covered that day. I'm a big fan of Swiss trains - the only way to go in that country IMO.

I agree that Zurich generally has more airlines serving it and better non-stop service; but getting to Hawaii is going to require several changes no matter how you slice it. I would first look into flights and see which airport might offer you the easiest way to get home.
If Geneva is more convenient, or if it isn't but you really don't care about longer flights or more changes, the main reasons I can see for going out of Geneva are (i) if you can spend any time at all in the really lovely Lake Geneva area (not Geneva itself), or (ii) if you want to take the Golden Pass train which will give you a very scenic ride up and through the mountain passes and down into the Lake Geneva area. This would be a very pretty way to get to Geneva airport, albeit you may have to overnight in the Geneva area to get your flight out (which you may have to do in Zurich anyway). For info on the Golden Pass train, go to http://www.goldenpass.ch. From Interlaken to the Montreux/Laussanne area, the train takes 3 hours, and another hour to Geneva.
If you have to overnight in the Geneva area, I would recommend staying in Lausanne, Morges or Vevey, which are about an hour by train to Geneva airport (most trains require no changes) and which are more pleasant towns.
If you could spend 2 days or more in the Lake Geneva area, you would never regret it. It is one of my absolutely favorite areas in Switzerland, and I used to live there. I actually like it more than the Interlaken area, as beautiful as that area is.

Yes if you have all day to go to Geneva you could take as Cicernone says the gorgeous Golden Pass route, which takes a few hours longer than the main Interlaken-Bern-Lausanne-Geneva mainline route. And once in Geneva take a boat trip on Lake Geneva - 100% covered by a Swiss Railpass if one of you free travel days - Golden Pass also covered in full though you must reserve the Interlaken-Montreux portion at a few Swiss Francs - 1st class passes can sit in the spiffy new and improved observation 'panorama' cars with seats that swivel - or maybe even get on the of highly sought after seats in the front on the train that gives a simulation of driving the train.

If flights choices are equal, I would suggest Geneva and spending your last couple days in the Lac Leman area (french-speaking region). It's very pretty there.
Both Zurich and Geneva have train stations right at the airports.

Geneva (or its outlying areas) sound more scenic according to everybody. If we had more time we might leave out of Geneva. Since we hope to spend a few days in Wengen we may leave out of Zurich just we convenience. Thanks for your suggestions.
