Florence to Siena - what bus and where
I have read some reports on tripadvisor.com that discuss bus service to Siena from Florence. I have to say, those reports aren't nearly as detailed and useful as the ones we post here. Anyway.
I see some conflicting or confusing information. We'll be in Florence and are considering a day trip to Siena.
1. Where do I pick up the bus?
2. Do I need to book in advance?
3. Where do I hop off the bus? Saw one report that says we'd need to take a 'mini-bus' once we arrive in Siena.
4. What is the name of the bus (SITA, Tra-in?)
5. Anyone know the times of the buses?
Any help is appreciated folks.
Thanks.

Hi md,
You want the SITA bus.
The station is located on Via Santa Caterina da Siena, about 1 blk SW of the SMN train station.
You take the bus to the end of the line in Siena. You will be about 3 blks from Il Campo.
Bus schedules are at

I think that it would be a good idea to buy your tickets the day before. Don't leave them at the hotel.

The bus station in Florence is a bit tricky since everyone just says "across the street from the train station," which isn't 100% true. If you're standing on the south side of the train station facing south (toward the river), cross the street, turn left, and then take your first right. You should see buses going into the side of the block. That's the bus station. Go in, and on the left side is the ticket office. Get your tickets (with return to Siena), and ask which is the next fastest bus. We didn't pay attention and took the non-direct bus down. It made a few stops but it wasn't awful, so if you get one of these it's not the end of the world. You'll be dropped off a few blocks from Il Campo--just follow the signs.
