Florence to Arezzo?

Hi! We will be in Florence for 6 days in May, and would like to take a day trip to Arezzo and/or San Sepulcro to see some of Piero Della Francesca's paintings. Is it feasible to do this via train? bus? hired car with driver? Thanks in advance!

Hi B&B,

Train schedules and prices are at www.trenitalia.com/en.

It's about 1/2 hr by train to Arezzo.

There are frequent trains (about every 30-60 minutes) from Florence to Arezzo, takes about 37 to 55 minutes, depends on types of train.

Is it foolish to go to both towns in one day? We don't want to be like the character in John Mortimer's book "Summer's Lease" in which the Brits left their rented villa early in the morning in order to "knock off the frescoes before breakfast" ...then "not 10 o'clock yet and we've done Arezzo"...then on to Monterchi to "the preggy lady"---etc.

From Arezzo to San Sepolcro there are buses nearly hourly, which take about one hour. The bus depot is next to the train station in Arezzo. You can see both towns in one very long day, if you don't mind getting up very early and can handle a full day of sightseeing. Plan to spend at least 70% of the time in Arezzo.
