Florence: stay or daytrip ?
Hi !
we will be in Florence in july. We have 5 nights in rome, 4 in florence and 3 in Venice.
For now we have made an aribnb reservation for our 4 nights in Florence. But I read everywhere that it will be a zoo in July , and since we will be there on weekend (friday to tuesday) it should be worse than that !
Since we have plan to do a daytrip to Sienna by bus should we change our plans and stay in Sienna and do daytrip to florence ? or split time between them ?
On Tuesday we have to go to Padua to vist a friend before heading to venice. Staying in Sienna would mean bus to Florence + train to Padua....
What is your ideas about this ?

Well if you want to see the main sights of Florence, go ahead and stay there. Pre-book any entry you can. If you want a slower paced experience, then maybe Sienna with a one jam packed day in Florence (again, pre-book entries). If it were me, I'd probably just stay in Florence and day trip to Sienna - it would seem to make the move to Venice on step easier.

IMO, it will be zoo-like on some level in each of the places on your list. And I would include Siena to the list. FYI, the Palio Provenzano in Siena is July 2nd, and the Palio Assumption on Aug. 16th.
A bigger problem is being in Florence from Friday to Tuesday because many of the most popular sights are not open every Sunday and Monday and most churches have specific hours for non-worshipping visitors. Depending on what you hope to see/do, it's possible you'd need to be in the city for at least two days to get in the things on your sightseeing list. On the other hand, if you're there on the first Sunday of the month, lots of museums and sights have free entry, and the crowds can be huge. Lastly, if it's hot and humid, you may want/need a little down time in the middle of the day which also affects how much you can accomplish in the time you have.
