I agree!!
If you must ask what 'attractions' are a waste of time in Florence, it's not a place for you to waste your money . .
Florence is magic and just walking the streets is a magnificent history lesson!!
Stand one block from the Ponte Vecchio and stare at the bridge at sunset . .
Costs nothing and it's breathtaking!!
Ciao . .

I'm not condoning the practice, but for the true budget traveler that wants to save a few Euro, you can get into the church of Santa Croce without paying the admission price. Last summer, I needed to pick up something at the Leather School of Santa Croce which is behind the church and attached to it by a small loggia. Because I've seen the interior of the church many times and wasn't planning to on this visit, I took a shortcut to the Leather School through the garden behind the church. You can reach it by taking the street that borders Santa Croce on its left (as you face the front of the church). Go down about half a block and you will see a gate leading to a garden on your right. It is open all day. Walk up the driveway and at the back of the garden you will see a two story building with a staircase on the outside. Go up to staircase and you enter the back door of the Leather School. Once in the Leather School, exit by its main entrance and you'll be on the loggia leading to the church.

Actually, I think jtrandolph has a point. You should visit and see what interests you and not just so you can check it off a list.
Get a book on Florence and when you are searching, jot down a place that you really really can't miss, for yourself, not for other people.
The word "attraction" in your heading makes me wonder if you think it is like, excuse the expression, a Disney Land, where you run from attraction to attraction.
I hope you have a wonderful trip but hope you don't feel like you should pay money to see things you aren't that interested in, like I wrote before, go have a picnic and stroll the streets instead if this is the case.

I think my use of the word "attractions" gave a false impression of how I view Florence.
Not to worry - I have books and have been surfing the internet looking at tons of pictures, reading up on things, and scoping out walks.
I have a pretty good idea what I want to see and do, but also like to hear what others think and feel about things.
