There is lots of information already here to give you a start. If you've not already done so, take a look at the Rants & Raves section of this site. Then try some text searching "florence and hotel" or "flroence and budget" will pull up many threads. Most are focused on cheap to moderate accomodations.

The Frommers site also has good budget hotel listings.

Was there last spring and stayed at the Hotel Cellai, lovely, cost 100euros which was perfect for us. Could walk anywhere and everywhere from there. Their e-mail is www.hotelcellai.it
if you go there, enjoy

Stayed at Hotel Casci last week. Clean, well located and with most helpful staff. Would do it again.

It has been several years, but the Hotel River, right beside the river, was excellent - mid-priced, great location to walk everywhere, nice rooms, and very pleasant staff. Undoubtedly, prices have risen considerably given the location!

Stayed at Hotel Casci in Feb 2002 - clean, comfortable, excellent location, charming staff, English speaking, booked online, hotelcasci.com. I would stay again and again.
