Kathy and everyone else--
I too went to the Gold Corner and also a ton of other gold shops AWAY from the Ponte Vecchio---
Howver, the BEST prices and MOST UNUSUAL pieces that were truely gorgeous were at S.Viaggi --there are 2 shops--go to the MAIN ONE on the corner of the PONTE VECCHIO on the Duomo side of the Bridge--- the other Viaggi store is much smaller--but they will run between stores and bring you tons of things to look at---For the BEST prices, deal with ROBERTO as he is the OWNER and truly a charming man with excellent taste in fine jewelry.

I know its not Florence but has anyone else who knows gold (as those on this thread seem to) heard of the jewellery of a twon called Scanno in the Abruzzo? We visited there two years ago but it was Sunday and stores closed: I have regretted ever since not going back...the stuff I saw was different from that available in Florence or Rome, quite light and intricately woven strips of gold made into earrings, medallions, bracelets, crosses etc. Thinking of returning to this area for the gold alone...

John G...you are a hoot!!! No, I do not own Viaggi, LOL!
I purchased a beautiful 18K rose gold bracelet, high polish and satin mix, similar to a wheat-sheaf link, for about $18 CDN a gram. I can't touch that here in Canada, even on the Shopping Channel, which IMHO, has the best 18K prices in the land. I didn't care that it was machine made (my last name isn't Kennedy) and wanted a heavy weight.
First and foremost, I followed the cardinal rule: I bought what I liked and I can live with the price.
