Florence Budget Hotel and Itinerary

Hi All,
Thanks again for help on previous questions about this trip. I am now searching for a budget hotel in Florence for the end of July for under 60 EUROS! I've combed the board and come up with some good options (B and B Peterson is the front runner right now), but wondering if it's possible to have a clean room, with private bathroom, ac, and internet access all for that price???
We're two single female travelers, who definitely do not mind walking, just want to make sure it'll be a safe area.
I'm also trying to plan out our day trips- how many should we take during our 8 night, 9 day stay? I was thinking of Lucca and Siena, hearing rave reviews, but are we missing out on wine tasting in the Chianti region? We're not going to have a car, and love museums and that sort of thing, not big shoppers, and wine appreciators, but not afficionadas.
TIA!
M

I'm afraid I don't know any super-budget hotels in Florence, I'm a big fan of the Hotel Casci but its lowest rate is about 100 euros. However, have you considered an apartment, especially since you'll be in Florence for more than a week? I really like the Residenza il Carmine apartments in the Oltr'arno district.
www.residenzailcarmine.com.
It's a very safe area, a bit outside the historic centre. I think their smallest apartments are about 500 euro per week. One thing I like about renting an apartment is that you can save a lot on food, fixing some of your own meals.

There is so much to see and do in Florence, you can fill a week! But I think you could do 3 or 4 day trips and not feel too frazzled.
I love Siena and Lucca both, they are really easy and inexpensive day trips from Florence (the bus to Siena is best, taking you right into the centre of the old city) and the train to Lucca is inexpensive and easy. I'd also consider a day trip to Cortona, again only an hour by train, then the bus up to the old city. San Gimignano is fabulous, and Bologna is also only an hour away, although it's outside Tuscany.

You can also do wine tasting in Siena, which has an interesting enoteca built into walls of the Medici Fortress, a fairly easy walk from the centre of historic Siena. You can sit on its terraces and eat snacks while you try different wines, and I think it has some educational programs as well. You can also try wines in other places like Cortona and even in Florence itself!

Hope you have a great trip!

Ira is traveling right now, but I recall reading that the B&B Peterson does have A/C. So I think it does fit your requirements, based on the reviews (I haven't stayed there), except that I'm not sure about Internet access. There are reasonably priced Internet cafes in Florence - at least there were in 2005, so I wouldn't make that a dealbreaker.

My sister just booked Hotel Unicorno for $120 US dollars a night at the end of July. She has stayed there before and it's in a great location. She actually got the great rate on hotels.com but their site is listing doubles for 100 euros for the end of July. I know that's not quite your budget but I am not really sure of any others that are nice enough at that low rate.

Go with B&B Peterson it’s the best. Room super clean, own bath, close to train station and bus stops at door. B&B is a misnomer as they don't do breakfast but the place on the corner is great as is the place around the other corner away from city center. The bus that stops in front #13 is the one that will take to P Michelangelo for that glorious view. I stayed there on Iras advice 3 years ago and again last year and my daughter is staying in September. Super nice people!

Thanks all for the help! I think I'll keep the reservation with B and B Peterson and report back.

We just got back from italy last week and we stayed one night in Florence at Hotel Maxim. Great Location 1/2 block from the Duomo. We had a quad room. It was clean, nice bathroom, they had 2 computers in the lobby and a decent breakfast in the morning. The staff was very helpful also. It is on the third floor of the building but they had an elevator. It was 150 Euro for a quad room but the location was GREAT!
